Hi, My name is Anne Marie.  I have been practicing physical therapy since 2000. I opened my practice in Brooklyn, NY in 2007 introducing an osteopathic manual approach. In 2013 I opened a second practice in Portsmouth, RI.  I have recently moved the Rhode Island office to Middletown, collaborating with Dr. Kristin Ward, DAOM.

My Approach

I use a gentle, manual approach to treat the whole person and the primary cause of dysfunction, not just the symptoms.  People of all ages who want to:

  • reduce pain

  • maximize function

  • and optimize the body's innate ability to heal itself can benefit from treatment.

Each patient receives a unique, personalized treatment plan which is a blend of traditional physical therapy and osteopathic manual techniques.

When necessary, office treatments are supplemented with a customized Home Exercise program to improve flexibility, increase strength, and to develop or refine body awareness.

If you would like to read more information on the osteopathic manual techniques that I use, please:

Testimonials

Dr. Anne Marie at Subtle Harmony is an outstanding physical therapist! We are lucky to have her right here on Aquidneck Island. She has helped me with so many physical problems; it is hard to remember all of them. She is definitely the best physical therapist I have ever had!

I have Ankylosing Spondylitis (a form of arthritis that causes the spine to fuse). When I started seeing Dr. Anne Marie I couldn't lie on my back or belly without getting spasms after a few minutes. I was in pretty much constant pain. I was not taking any pain medications because of the side effects. Now after her treatments and following her suggestions for exercise and stretching, I know longer get the spasms, and can sleep on my back. The best part is that I have been able to remain free of pain medications.

Dr. Anne Marie also has given me suggestions for diet changes. She is very knowledgeable about herbal medicine. Over time, I noticed I started to lose weight, just from the diet changes.

Also, I wasn't getting any regular exercise for years before seeing Dr. Anne Marie, but now walk regularly for exercise. She has encouraged me to walk in 5Ks, something I have never considered. I have done several now.  I have now been able to incorporate some jogging into my walking routine, and hopefully someday will run a 5K.

With Dr. Anne Marie's treatments, and guidance with my exercise and diet I have lost 52 lbs. over the past year, and no longer have sleep apnea, which I have been plagued with for several years.

Before seeing Dr. Anne Marie, my blood pressure was high on several occasions, and I was starting to get concerned.  After seeing Dr. Anne Marie regularly, it is now normal, and I have avoided medications.

I dreaded sneezing, my back muscles were so tight, and it felt like they were ripping apart when I sneezed. This problem has plagued me for several years.  I can sneeze now without pain.

I'm sure I forgot something, but wanted to say that Dr. Anne Marie is extraordinary, and has taken an active interest in my recovery from pain and stiffness.  She is very patient, and encouraging, will show you exercises a little at a time, so that you can get used to doing them, rather than inundating you with a page of exercises to do all at once.

I highly recommend going to Subtle Harmony for Physical Therapy.  Hours are very flexible, and parking is easy in the Green Grocer parking lot.
